Award of Recognition to Chuck Charlebois

The Cornwall Academy of Medicine presented an award of recognition to Chuck Charlebois, of Groupe Renaissane Group, for his significant vontribution to the health and welfare of the people of the community.

Chuck Charlebois was given the Ontario Medical Association community service award for his role as a great enthusiast, a people motivator, and a champion for Cornwall.

Charlebois was chair of the Cornwall Waterfront Committee from 1991 to 1997. During this time, the committee implemented a plan that has transformed Cornwall. He was instrumental in convincing city council to provide funds for developing a river front park with a marina, bicycle path, theme garden and other features.

Charlebois has also been instrumental in improving the central business district shoping center and "Le Village."

He is presently involved with the Renaissance Group Brownfields Redevelopment, which is working to redevelop the Heritage Industrial Waterfront inCornwall.

This has already resulted in area clean up, new roads, new water and sewer services, new sidewalks and street lighting.

In 2001, Charlebois was awarded the "Brownie Award" for Innovative Leadership in Brownfield Redevelopment by the Canadian Urban Institute.

The award was present to Charlebois on Wednesday September 24, 2003.
