Renaissance Lofts Project

Present View of the Cotton MillsThe redevelopment of the former cotton mills complex is a significant part of the revitalization of the Lorneville South neighbourhood and the greater Cornwall community. This site located at the south end of McConnell Avenue is strategically located on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. The need for redevelopment in this area has been identified in the City of Cornwall Official Plan and the Cornwall Waterfront Plan.

Future View of the Cotton MillsPlans have been in the works for more than four years for the project to come to life. The Loft Project is already receiving the nod of approval from both the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. This project, with its provincially sponsored development is a pilot project for Brownfields. The Loft Project is a landmark project that will serve as a baseline for other communities.

This Brownfields development will benefit our community by;

  • Expanding the tax base.
  • Increasing property value.
  • Maximizing the existing infrastructure.
  • Revitalizing the community.
  • Creating employment opportunities.
Future View of the Cotton MillsThe vision of the Loft Project is to renovate 100,000 square feet of space as a people oriented place. This vision includes office space, institutions, art gallery and theatre, public and private services while maintaining ample green spaces. By redeveloping this historical site to a live and work space the Loft Project is revitalizing Cornwalls' waterfront area by creating a focal point that will attract residents and maintain the vibrant community known as Le Village.
