Mattice Park Project

Mattice Park

Parc Mattice Park-

Parks should be, and for the most part are, designed with all ages in mind: the elderly, adults, children and the disabled. Parc Mattice Park was built with a young family oriented community in mind. It contains playground equipment, wading pool, outdoor pool, tennis courts and ample green spaces.

The family unit and resident dynamic has changed by the addition of a seniors residence which houses approximately 216 seniors.

This project, with over $50,000.00 of cash and in-kind contributions, is a shared effort with the City of Cornwall, Le Village BIA ZAC, Ontario Works, Le Club Optimiste de Cornwall, Public Works-City of Cornwall, World Changers, Menard Brothers (Gaetan and Claude), Renaissance Residence Association and Groupe Renaissance Group has resulted in a unique accessibility plan for Mattice.

Parc Mattice Park now has a brick path throughout allowing for wheelchairs and walking aids. The path will allow for barrier free movement for viewing of all activities. This collaboration will create a more accessible and inclusive facility that will improve accessibility for the community as a whole.

This community driven project will demonstrate the power of partnerships and the creative results that can come from cooperation.

This pilot project will act as a future template that will be used by other municipalities and organizations to improve services for seniors and people with disabilities.
